Jan Lloyd Chua, a former student of Hope Christian School in Gensan, is shown with representatives from DepED Gensan Division moments after being declared the National Champion during the STEP national skills competition held a few years back in Davao City.

“The champ after his triump with Gen. Santos City DepED representatives. His story is very inspiring since Jan is not a decorator when recruited by his school to join the competition. He was a school varsity player for basketball. His only association with baking and decorating cakes is his family who owns Aunt Ludy’s bakeshoppe.
“When he was brought to Gerardo’s for a crash course in cake decorating by his father Joseph Chua, Jan showed tremendous interest and dedication that after only two weeks of night sessions he was already a very good decorator, much better than most professional practicing in Gensan at that time, that is how good he is.,” says Chef Gerry.
Jan is now a student of Ateneo de Davao but during his vacations in Gensan he decorates cakes displayed at Aunt Ludy’s Robinson Gensan branch and Aunt Ludy branch in Purok Malakas, Barangay Height.
Indeed, his love for baking and decorating is now forever enshrined in his blood like the rest of his family.
