Gerardo’s another victory

GENERAL SANTOS CITY– Another student of Gerardo’s School of Culinary Arts and Cake Decorating made it to the National STEP Competition in Baguio City last November 23, 2008 as Kate Angeline Tan won 2nd place.

Tan, a senior and a consistent honor student at Hope Christian School and a cake decorating student at Gerardo’s   bagged 2nd place in the National STEP Competition. She wowed the judges with her intricately embroidered two-tiered debut cake featuring   ruffled bottom border   with shells and an overlapping drop strings with dragees.  The top border was a rope design which the embroidery work in the middle of the side of the cake was amazing. “Normally embroidery work is easier when using royal icing and done in a fondant, but to do this design using a soft icing is incredible, and only 1 out of maybe a hundred students can do embroidery work in a cake,” says Chef Gerry of Gerardo’s.

Her victory followed last year’s national champion John Lloyd Chua, who marked his victory in the 2007 edition of the National STEP competition held in Davao City.

Kate’s triumph is the 2nd national award garnered by students of Gerardo’s in two outings
